A grand stone castle stands surrounded by well-manicured gardens under a bright blue sky with fluffy clouds. The architecture features large windows, a towering central structure, and is complemented by the lush greenery and symmetrically arranged flowerbeds.

Built in 1908, and designed by architect Samuel Maclure for the family of James Dunsmuir, a British Columbian industrialist and politician, the Hatley Castle now serves as an administrative centre for the Royal Roads University. The University is situated just outside of Victoria, B.C., on Vancouver Island, on the west coast of Canada.

I consider myself to be primarily a nature and landscape photographer, who also enjoys creating digital art. I live on the west coast of Canada, on the southern tip of beautiful Vancouver Island, and nature provides much of the inspiration for my craft. I am lucky to have many birds and wildlife share my neighbourhood, and I will spend many a happy hour sitting outside with my camera, capturing their antics as they come to visit my yard. The many birds and deer have become used to seeing that crazy lady sitting on the porch pointing her black box at them, and, as a result, I have been lucky to have captured many of their images as they visit unafraid.
