Photography by M. Wilson
My roots are firmly planted in Canadian soil. I live on beautiful Vancouver Island, on the west coast of Canada, where I am surrounded and inspired by nature, mountains and the sea. I can often be found outside with my camera, photographing the life around me.
I became enamoured with photography at a young age. I think I was 12 when I received my first Kodak film camera along with the set of square flashcubes. It was at Christmas, judging by the photo I have of my headless relatives posing for my camera. Shortly afterwards, I mastered the art of not chopping off heads in these pictures, but film (and flashcubes) were expensive on my babysitting money. However, I had my priorities, and I continued taking many photos through the years. Then the digital cameras appeared ... well ... there has been no stopping me since.
Lately I have found a passion in creating works of fine art through the magic of the digital darkroom. The process of creating photo artistry is exciting to me. I love the challenge of creating a new piece. My artwork often seems to suggest its own path as I am working on it, and I end up being surprised at the outcome. I love working with the colours, and the textures, and the way they all meld together to create a new work.
You will find a little bit of everything here, as my art ranges from realism to fantasy.
