Description
The National Historic Site of Fort Rodd Hill was built in the late 1890s to defend Victoria and the Esquimalt Naval Base. This coast artillery fort contains gun batteries, underground magazines, command posts, guardhouses, barracks and searchlight emplacements. The site is well represented with interpretive signs and audio-visual stations, as well as period furnished rooms. Here visitors can wander through gun batteries and underground magazines built a century ago.
Here is one of the lanterns set inside the stone wall of one of the gun batteries.
