Description
A stark white wooden shed with black hinges sits prominently in the foreground with a portion of a rowboat visible, resting on a wooden platform. Behind the shed stands an impressive lighthouse with a vibrant red cap, set against a clear blue sky, adjacent to a large brick building.
The Fisgard Lighthouse was built in 1860, and was the first lighthouse on Canada's west coast. Still in operation, it is now a National Historic Site and has been automated since 1929. Open to the public, visitors can step inside a real 19th century light, and capture some of the feeling of ships wrecked and lives saved.
